What company is the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X1 compatible with?

I was pensive about getting this phone in replacement of my current one, the Big shot from Sprint. When did this phone come out? What does "unlocked" phones tight-fisted?

A: It's a GSM phone so an unlocked phone will employment with AT&T and T-Mobile. It cannot be used with Sprint or Verizon which are CDMA networks.
